| OPENING
DATE |
1953 |
| HISTORY |
The Bahia was Mission Bay's first and foremost beach resort
and has celebrated a half-century on the Beach and Bay. The
destination beach resort, sprung to life on a prominent piece
of peninsula in 1953 and has been attracting generations of
vacationers for traditional family-style beach getaways ever
since. The bay was little more than a brackish tidal maze
when William D. Evans and his wife Anne first journeyed out
to the mudflats to survey the possibilities - and envision
the results.
In 1953 the 52-room hotel opened on the white and sandy Mission
Bay beach. Another 20 units were added just two years later,
and an additional 40 units soon after that. Legions of vacationers
arrived to soak up the sun, surf and sport. As Mission Bay
grew, helped by the tremendous popularity of the Bahia Resort
Hotel, the Evans opened the Catamaran and became operators
of the historic Belmont Park, that is home to the legendary
roller coaster, in Mission Beach.

for functionality, flexibility and working comfort. All 16-function
rooms are complemented by breathtaking, panoramic views.
The Bahia Sternwheelers provide a unique San Diego experience
to complement a truly memorable event. The Bahia Belle and her
sister ship the William D. Evans are replicas of nineteenth
century Mississippi riverboats. Each ship is magnificently adorned
with rich woods, etched glass and polished brass fixtures bringing
back an era of fine service and elegance.
The William D. Evans is equipped to handle up to 575 guests
and the Bahia Belle can accommodate up to 200. The William D.
Evans and Bahia Belle provide all modern amenities while still
maintaining nineteenth century grace and charm. The William
D. Evans launched in 1987 is a masterpiece of fine craftsmanship.
Every detail has been painstakingly labored to produce an environment,
which stops time and recalls the era when majestic boats ruled
the waters. Asian ironwood parquet floors, hand carved mahogany
doors and etched glass accents every corner and all three decks.
The breathtaking upper deck ceiling is a stained glass vaulted
skylight 42 feet long and 18 feet wide. The skylights radiant
colors are created with over 50,000 pieces of imported European
stained glass. On the first level, the "Boiler Room Bar"
is twenty feet of copper and brass resembling massive antique
boilers. Lights glimmer, gauges fluctuate and "fire"
flickers adding a special excitement to this one of a kind bar.
The William D. Evans has modern state of the art audiovisual
equipment and a full galley making her the perfect choice for
a social, business or corporate event. |
